A Chinese construction firm has signed a
$154 million contract with Tanzania's government to expend the main port in its
largest city, Dar es Salaam.
A roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) terminal will
be built at the Dar es Salaam port, with seven berths to be deepened and
shored-up by the Chinese firm, according to a report by Reuters. The project
will be financed by the World Bank.
Tanzania's government says it hopes the
container throughput will be increased to 28 million tonnes by 2020 from its
current capacity of 20 million tonnes.
